Working out and workouts.

What a week. And that’s about how long it took to get the ice up off the driveway. Thanks to my persistence and a few above freezing days I can wear heels again on the sidewalk and not shuffle or fear for my neck.

I’ve also become very familiar with the gym, Candy and I have been working out every weekday morning and then hit up the yoga studio 2 nights a week. Still waiting for the results but I know it takes time. It’s things like this that remind me that I have no patience.

I also took in Bismarck Bull Days today. Dad had three to prep today. I know he’s had a few sales this week, my bull still is on the market. I think I should put an ad in the paper “Looking for a good home!” We had unfortunate news from one of our customers, they had one of our bulls that they’ve purchased hit by a train. It spread him all over, how terrible.

Work has been crazy again, it’s been one of those learning weeks! But to tell you how trying it was, the best part of the week was that we have an office Keurig. I’m excited to try it out and see if I like because I’ve been jealous lately of those that get to try and play.

Tonight I will have an evening with the girls and a side of sushi. Candy and Aubrey have both become engaged over the past 2 months. We are celebrating their upcoming celebrations and just gabbing a bit. Both have already set the dates and are getting excited. I know I wish them all the luck in the world as they see their dreams come true.

Meal of the week: ohhh, now this week it is tough but Matt’s appled pork chops with my zucchini chips and rice pilaf was amazing!

End of the holiday parties?

As usual, let’s start with a weather update…we’ve had the first freezing rain storm of the winter. I miss the 30’s and 40’s of earlier this month. Matt went and bought ice to put down and I can’t use cruise on the drive home. I guess I can’t complain, I can still see the ground and I haven’t been wishing for my snow blower.

Work was crazy this past week. I’ll start seeing my client campaigns in the media; whether it be a Mandan meat company, a Minot college, or the largest fair in ND…they’ll be showing up soon. Right now it’s a ton of work and getting things organized and sorted and on time. Creativity often times has to be rushed, and there is nothing worse than looking at a AV guy, a creative director, and a graphic designer and say I need a proof yesterday, what ideas have you got? They hate that.

Mom and Dad had Dickinson Bull Days. The bulls looked pretty good, and another bonus, they acted well too. I asked a designer to help with the posters this year and I was happy with what she came up with. It helps when we have some great product to show off. I’ll admit; I was also excited to see that one of my bulls also has been on display. What’s sad and shows that I’ve been in this business for some time is that one of my favorite herd cows (number 7) will be sold this coming week. Hard to believe she’s been around for so long and the cows that I used to know by heart (48, 38, 22, 9) aren’t around anymore.

We had Matt’s Rural Fire Department Christmas Party this week. What a great group of people! The meal was great (turkey, porkchops, mashed potatoes, etc) and then afterward they had a casino night with games and fake money. The money was then used to buy auction items; we took home a great embroidered blanket that will probably find its way into the camper this summer. Matt kept me out pretty late but I’m glad he had a good time.

We also had guests stay at his house. Brendan and Claudia had just gotten back from their honeymoon in Hawaii. We shared a few pizzas and some laughs. It was nice to have a nice couple’s night and catch up a bit. Claudia and I think a summer trip to an amusement park might be in the works for us!

Meal of the week: Not a big week for eating, I made BBQ pizzas for myself but probably the best was the homemade blueberry cinnamon rolls for Matt and I’s Sunday brunch.

Working my Way to Weekends.

So the winter may have started. The temps have been dropping a bit this week and I had to even shovel the driveway, again. I’m hoping for a hold off for a bit more but we’ll see.

This week was busy, a trip to Minot for work, client meeting setups, and such. The week did end work related as it was the company Christmas party. It was pretty low-key but my date was cute and I won a gift certificate to Applebee’s.
Matt not only experienced the party, but during the weekend, he had two wonderful breakfasts made for him, bought himself a Kindle fire, and was able to experience his first bull “shaving”.

I’ve been working with Dad to get the bulls ready for the Bull Day showcases in Dickinson and Bismarck. We clipped about 10 bulls and even spent an afternoon washing them. A haircut really does make them look nice but it comes with a face full of little hairs and the smell of a barn. Dad even got himself a fancy new clipper to keep up with me!

Meal of the week: Mom’s potato soup. It’s always my go-to comfort food. This wasn’t a one-meal thing as I had leftovers too!

Weather and Weekends

Let’s start out by stating that we have had record-breaking weather. The temps have been beautiful, I’ve worn my fall jacket, and I haven’t had to shovel. It was in the 50’s in January. I’m getting spoiled and the longer we can keep a hold of this, the longer we can go without the horrid things that winter brings.

The first week of the year was pretty good, it was a short week at work and I like that. I spent a few night at my parents house clipping bulls for them to take to the Bull Showcases in Dickinson and Bismarck. We have a few done but need to get a few more taken care of. I’m glad that I can help Dad, they always look so nice after they get a shave.

Matt came to Bismarck this past weekend. We celebrated Christmas with my parents over appetizers, supper, and games. It was a nice evening of fun and some wine! On Saturday, we had some errands and things that needed to be taken care of, but at night I went out with some girls from work for a 30th birthday party. The night was fun. I do have to given credit to my amazing boyfriend who picked me up, ensured I had food and aspirins, and took care to tuck me into bed. I think he had a few laughs along the way. I’ve already seen a reenactment or two of the night, I’m sure he won’t be quick to forget.

Matt did have a busy week with the fire hall. Not only did he have an early Friday morning rescue but he also was elected to be a captain and the safety officer. I’m not surprised that chose him. He’ll have to carry a radio now and notify when he’s leaving town so I’m sure the guys will be paying attention to that!

One thing that we finally got to do was go to “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” in theaters. We’ve been reading the series. I just started the third book, and he’s reading the second. As usual the book was better than the movie but it was interesting to see the portrayal and gave us things to compare and discuss. I’ll be interested to see how the others are interlaced, especially as they started going into things from the second book during the movie.

Meal of the week: Sunday nights: Barbeque pork sandwich with steamed vegetables and homemade cheese bites. (I found the recipe, Matt cooked them. I did make the rest of the meal though)

Year 2012, Weekend 1.

First Post of the Year..
So much pressure, especially with my fancy new look. After 3 years, the blog was remodeled. I’ll admit it takes some getting used to and I had an instant feeling of regret after I changed it, especially given the fact that I can never go back to the retro-model, as the site upgrade doesn’t allow it. However, it was time!

Some things that have happened over the past little bit…

1. Beautiful weather. This is the first winter that I remember to be absolutely wonderful. I think the past 3 winters have blocked out previous memories but the sun, the mild cold, and the lack of precip have really worked out for me. It has also been making the 100 mile distance drive much more doable as we don’t have to worry about the road conditions yet. If I have my way, we’ll keep it that way.

2. New Year’s Eve. I didn’t make it to midnight…how awful. Matt and I dressed up (and looked danggood) and went out for dinner and drinks. We attempted to go ice skating with a friend and his daughter but the event at the Rec Center was a hit among the pre-teens of Dickinson…there wasn’t a skate I could rent. So much for romantic hand-holding on the ice! He got to get out on the ice, I could tell he was excited and that made me smile. We ended the night with martini’s on the couch!

3. Self-Cooking. We’ve come to be disappointed in what Dickinson offers in terms of food and beverage. It’s not that we don’t think some of the food is good, we have some options and there are favorites that we go to it’s just that we decided that 90% of the time, we make it better ourselves and the service doesn’t make us mad. So I’m proud to say that I had the best martinis in town as well as homemade pizza, gravyed pork chops, gourmet venison chili, and an elaborate breakfast. We were proud of everything we made except I had a bit of his favorite pizza (peanut butter, pepperoni, jalapenos, and cheese) and it just felt wrong. It wasn’t as bad as I thought but my brain didn’t understand what was happening.

Other things that happened over the weekend included Matt working on his European mount of his deer head. He spent a ton of time on the skull of this year’s deer and made a bunch of progress from where he started. I appreciated that he let me just observe on a casual basis versus become involved in the process. I did some shopping, some errands, and learned how to use Pinterest. Overall a pretty laid-back weekend. A great start to a new year.

Meal of the week: (something new I'm starting... I love food, what can I say) Homemade Pepperoni Pizza
