"My First Week" (Matt named this one)

I’m between homes, no seriously. I’m officially living in two homes. I sat at mom and dad’s during the week and escape on the weekends back to Dickinson. This was my first full week on this new schedule as I officially started with KK Bold on Tuesday. It was a great week and think I’m really going to enjoy my job. I can’t wait to jump full in and get started. The office is gorgeous, the people are great, and the work will be amazing. I also will get Friday afternoons off during the summer! I think I’m going to like it! What’s also funny is that my childhood babysitter is also working there…sometimes it’s a small world!

In terms of houses, it’s been a big week for that too! Mom and I went house hunting last Tuesday. I’m looking at twin homes, condos, and houses. We saw everything, from nice and new houses to big pitholes that only could be improved with a wrecking ball! There were 2 that I liked and had Dad help narrow it down to 1 so we’ll see where that takes me. I also accepted an offer on my house. I’m very happy with it and hope that the sell goes smoothly, especially after the weekend that I had in Dickinson. I got back to water in the basement, which is not a huge new things, I’ve had a pool before. However, this time it was coming in in other places! Sad Face!! So Matt and I spent the day with the shop vacs and think we hauled out 100 gallons of water. Sad Sad Face! I can’t believe that he helped me or that after work he came back to help me! I’m so lucky to have him in my life, and not just for the yucky basement projects! Happy Face!

TonyDanza and Lola haven’t been thrilled with the move but they are actually handling it better now. Lola was curious right away, big shock. TonyDanza stayed in the “safe room” for awhile. He continues to spend a good part of his day there but he will travel around every once in awhile. I’m looking forward to having my own space again for their sake.

All in all it was a great week, despite the rain and the indoor swimming pool. I have some great summer plans and I’m looking forward to watching the changes start settling in.

Putting My Life in a Box...

Who noticed the change?? I have unofficially changed addresses, well kinda, I have faux moved houses because I started my new job. I’ll be living with the parents until I can get the house in Dickinson sold and buy another house in Bismarck.

Here’s how last week went, I packed on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday and then Thursday and on Friday, I rested, well kinda, ha! Friday was my last day of work at the Strom Center. I’ve been there for two years and seven month and I even had seniority. It was a great job that taught me a lot about me and the work that I wanted to do. I will miss some of the great people that I met and worked with.

Matt and I had a double date with Aubrey and Jeremiah. We went to their house, had pizza and wine! We even had a battle of the sexes with Guesstures and Partini. The girls dominated!! On Saturday, Matt and I wandered around town for a bit. We even took in the ducks and geese! It was a great weekend but I also realized that I had to start saying good bye to some great friends.

Have I mentioned I hate good byes.

“Don't be dismayed at goodbyes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetime, is certain for those who are friends.” –Richard Bach

Home? A transitioning definition!

First full week of May complete…but it has felt so much longer than 7 days!!

So aside from having a stream of realtors come in and give me “market analyses” I’ve also had carpet cleaners clean Mel’s room, which is so empty, and I have had some amazing friends come to give boxes and help out!

This weekend was amazing! Matt and I spent some quality time together and he was so good to me! We ripped all the carpet out, we took donations to the House of Manna, we painted the storage room (walls and floor), we moved furniture out to the storage shed, and he organized the basement after we bleached it. It looks completely different….I can’t believe it. Yes, we were exhausted at the end of the day and my legs are a bit sore but it felt so great. I’m starting to work on the upstairs to pack and organize there. I have felt so overwhelmed but this weekend really helped accomplish so much.

Matt also has taken me on a couple tours. I received personal tours of the airport (including runways) and the fire stations. I even got to see the airport throne! He couldn’t believe that I wanted to take a picture at the dump! But it was my first time!!

I’m also trying to take care of things at work before I leave. People have been so good to me and are wishing me luck. It feels a bit surreal right now and I’m okay with that. I don’t think I’m ready to say good bye, especially because I have met so many amazing and wonderful people that I will continue to keep in my life, whether I’m in central or mountain time zone.

I’m in the final countdown for work and for moving home to live. I’ll be taking Lola and TonyDanza with me next week. We’ll have a full house including 3 cats and a Belle-Dog. It will be interesting for the next couple months. I’ve been told that a renter’s agreement is being drafted.
Mother’s Day gave me some time to reflect on the amazing people in my life who have impact and influenced me. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have an amazing mother who continues to love and support me and has also agreed to let me die first because I can’t imagine what I would do without her! I also consider myself lucky when it comes to the other women role models that I have….they know who they are…they have continued to hold my hand, hold my drink, and hold me up.

"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts."--Washington Irving

"One of the very few reasons I had any respect for my mother when I was thirteen was because she would reach into the sink with her bare hands - bare hands - and pick up that lethal gunk and drop it into the garbage. To top that, I saw her reach into the wet garbage bag and fish around in there looking for a lost teaspoon. Bare hands - a kind of mad courage."--Robert Fulghum

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

WOW! It’s amazing how life can swing in a day, week, month!
I’ve had some huge changes alter my life in the past week.

1.Mel left for Rock Springs
So I’m not 100% okay with it but I know that she’s going for a great job and is being Miss Independent. I’m proud of her. It was so hard to see her drive off into the midmorning sunrise with her loaded Kia. I know we won’t lose contact and we’ll continue to be parts of each other lives. It would have been our “anniversary” on May 1.

2.I decided to take a job in Bismarck
I’m leaving Dickinson and DSU for a job with KK Bold, an advertising/marketing firm. I had applied for a job with them in November and was disappointed to hear when they filled it. However was elated when they contact me earlier this month and asked to meet.

3.I put my 2 weeks notice in
My last day at the Strom Center is May 13th. It was a hard decision to make in terms of leaving a great job that I’ve enjoyed and a great team of people. I’ve met so many people and found this is be the biggest hurdle in taking another position.

4.I started meeting with realtors
I’m going to put the house on the market. It’s a perfect time to sell in Dickinson as houses are in HIGH demand and I think I’ve got a cute little house that is perfect for someone with a small family or someone wanting to finish the basement.

5.I’m seeing someone
So Matt and I have been hanging out…by ourselves, with my friends, with his friends, and with the cats! He’s been super good to me and has been making me laugh, so I’ll keep playing it by ear. He is living in Dickinson, so the move may impact things. I’m not real worried right now….we’ll see!

6.I got an oil change
Okay, so that’s not huge news, but I thought it was funny.

What’s funny about this whole thing is the first weekend in April, Mel and I were sitting in the living room talking about things that were coming up. I looked at her and said, “April’s going to be a big month”…boy, we had NO clue just how much our lives would change in such a short time.

“Action and reaction, ebb and flow, trial and error, change - this is the rhythm of living. Out of our over-confidence, fear; out of our fear, clearer vision, fresh hope. And out of hope, progress.”—Bruce Barton
