You’ll notice that I didn’t go into detail regarding the sandblasting that we experienced. There is a good reason, because it’s better illustrated with pictures. Now Matt rode the jet blasts all days last year, but this is how this year’s started:
Insel Air MD80 begins taxing down the runway.
MJR: Com’on Dad, let’s go!
(And because Randy thinks Matt has brilliant ideas)Randy: Okay!
MJR: You don’t need a shirt, Dad.
(Surprisingly, Randy doesn’t agree with this brilliant idea)
Off they trot toward the center of the beach.
ALR picks up the camera.
Insel Air MD80 pilot waves hello to the beach as he goes past the yellow “guide line” and enters the “goalie box” almost brushing a wing along the fence and ALR realizes that they are “in for a good time.”
Plane prepares for the ride.
Insel Air MD80 begins the rev up of the motor.
Matt runs for the water and Randy hunkers down.
Matt realizes he didn't get far enough to be protected. Randy begins to understand what a 747 may feel like.
Matt begins to think it's never going to be over. Randy agrees.
The pilot continues.
Randy decides he can't bear the beating any longer and heads for the refuge in the water
Michele grabs ALR's arm with a death clutch: IS THIS SAFE?
The plane takes off. ALR can almost hear the pilot laughing with her.
Randy says he's never doing that again.
Michele decides to take it on from the side with MJR.
Randy is glad that he didn't listen to his wise son and left his shirt on.
ALR figures because she was the first to ride the 747, she's good for life.
