Day 2 of the trip was the big day. We knew it too. We had 14
hours of driving to ensure that we got to our next location, Reno. This meant
three states worth of driving…three large states. And we did it.

After grabbing some hotel breakfast, we got on the road
before 8:30. Our first stop wasn’t until Henry’s Lake, Idaho.
ALR: Oh, look. Huckleberry syrup, doesn’t that sound good?
MJR: Not when it explodes all over in our bag on the plane.
ALR: Taffy it is!
Our next stop was Twin Falls, Idaho for lunch, at 4:00, at
Chick-Fil-A, a rare treat for us. We both knew what we wanted before we even
walked in the door…the spicy sandwich. I was also happy to see a frozen
lemonade.

At Jackpot, Nevada, we switched drivers. I was excited to
see Nevada. I was thoroughly disappointed. The High Plains Dessert was barren
wasteland of brush and random flats with a color palate of dull brown. I
thought we’d see great little towns and communities but instead saw trailers
and garbage piles. At one point a tumbleweed came across the road and I
flinched as I thought it was going to take the car. I did have high hopes of
getting a Winnemucca t-shirt when we stopped there for fuel but was disappointed.
Obviously, their tourism department if slacking.
The last few miles to Reno were a bit dicey between the
on-and-off rain, the mountains, and the traffic, I wasn’t too confident in how
things were going. Matt didn’t say anything but at times we were both white
knuckling it. We got to the Atlantis and I was excited to see a bed after
dinner on the casino floor.
Laying in bed in the dark.
MJR: What’s been your favorite part of the trip so far?
