This was a prep and pick up day.
I started the day off in the make-up salon as a practice run for the big day. From there, Matt took me to Spa D’Athena, where Mom had given me a manicure and pedicure for my wedding shower and I enjoyed it. Had my first French tips on both my hands and toes. They looked beautiful and it was such a nice gift from my mother. While I did some primping, Matt started sorting all the items and pieces into place. He dropped stuff off at the hotel, off at Hawktree, and organized a bit.
From there we went to the airport to pick up some of Michele’s family, Matt’s Grandpa David, Aunt Judy and her Chris. I loved watching them get off the plane and seeing the hugs. We took them all to lunch at the Blarney Stone, so you could say that the night before was the Remynse’s and the lunch on Friday was the Evans’s. It was great to have these moments with these families in person. There’s been skype but it’s not the same as it was in person. These moments reminded me that Matt and I have always agreed that family is important.
From there, Matt and I prepped for rehearsal. We decided to hold rehearsal at Hawktree to get the feel for the site, to find the site, and to also bring people together. We did a few centerpieces up to match our location. I had grown grass and in the grass put golf balls and flags and tees. I must have done it pretty well because when Matt was bringing them in, a guy stopped him outside and asked if he was a grass salesman visiting the course!!
With the wedding party, we ran through the processional and service and then did a quick run through outside. I did get a laugh when Matt started down “the aisle” without his escort. My mother put a halt to that right away! We had the pairs go down. We went through the service rather quick with Burke, a mutual friend who has supported our relationship since before there was a Matt and Amanda.
After the run through and some socializing, one of our host couples, Randy made a beautiful prayer to kick off the meal. We decided to serve Chicago dogs and hamburgers for our meal with sides. The story behind this choice was that hamburgers was our first meal we had as an engaged couple and the Chicago dogs was a food love we gained on our trip to Chicago the month before we became engaged. This was a start to the goal of the wedding in my mind. I wanted people that we loved to get to know us better. Whether they knew Matt or I alone or together, I wanted to show a bit more of who we are to those that are important to us.
The meal was complimented with a beautiful cake by one of my best friends, Shantelle. I was her maid of honor in June and I was honored that she’s been such a big part of my wedding. The cake was beautiful but fun and the taste was AMAZING. She even took the time to cut it while my sister served it.
After the temp broke and we went through all the duties of the day and ceremony with all the wedding party, Dad put up the arbor with some help from the family. Our family friend, Gary was amazing to put the arbor together and add reinforcements to ensure that it held. It served as the backdrop for our ceremony and we plan to put it into our backyard.
The night ended with Matt and I splitting ways for the final time and I went home to sleep in the first bedroom that I can ever remember.
Best meal: Rehearsal dinner was amazing…the food and the family was absolutely wonderful.
ALM: “I agree. I don’t care if anyone else makes one or enjoys it with our style…but I sure am!”
DianaMM: “WAIT a MINUTE! You left me!” (Watching the back of Matt go down the aisle without her)
